Amaechi Rejects ADC Presidential Primary Results Over Alleged Irregularities
Former Rivers State governor and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election, describing the results being announced as “concocted.”
The ADC held its nationwide direct presidential primary on Monday ahead of the 2027 general election, with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, and Amaechi emerging as leading contenders in the race.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Amaechi alleged that the exercise was marred by widespread voter disenfranchisement and electoral malpractice across several states.
According to him, the process failed to meet the standards of fairness and transparency earlier promised by the party leadership.
Amaechi said he had made it clear before the exercise that he would only accept the outcome if the primary was conducted credibly, insisting that the reported irregularities invalidated the process.
He further alleged that a large number of party members were prevented from voting, questioning the legitimacy of the results being collated.
The former minister also accused the ADC of engaging in the same practices it had previously condemned in other political parties, including vote buying, manipulation of results, and voter suppression.
He maintained that such actions contradict the party’s stated mission of providing Nigerians with a credible alternative platform focused on accountability and national development.
Meanwhile, collation of results from across the country continued at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, where returning officers arrived to submit results from various states.
Atiku is currently leading the contest, having reportedly secured victories in several states, including Sokoto, Zamfara, Gombe, and Abia.
