Democracy Has Come To Stay — Atiku Hails ADC Nationwide Primaries

Former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has declared that democracy has firmly taken root in Nigeria following the conduct of the party’s nationwide primary elections.

Atiku made the remark on Monday after casting his vote at the Ajiya Ward Polling Unit in Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State.

The ADC presidential primary election was conducted simultaneously across 8,809 wards in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

According to a statement issued by Atiku Media Office, the former Vice President spoke shortly after voting, he described the turnout of party members as a strong reflection of growing internal democratic participation within the party.

“The large turnout of voters is a clear indication of how party members are willing to participate in the ADC internal democratic processes,” he said.

“I have no doubt that democracy has come to stay.”

The former Vice President arrived at the polling unit from Abuja to a warm reception from party supporters and faithful who gathered at the venue amid cheers and chants.

Atiku is one of three aspirants contesting for the ADC presidential ticket alongside former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and businessman Mohammed Hayatudeen.

According to the statement, the returning officer, Hon. Umar Jada, announced that Ajiya Ward had unanimously endorsed Atiku’s candidacy ahead of the voting process.


At the conclusion of voting, a total of 3,220 votes were reportedly cast in favour of the former Vice President.

The development comes as the ADC continues preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with party leaders expressing optimism over the growing participation of members in its internal democratic activities.
