Old Protest Video Being Recycled to Mislead Public About Sultan — Media Team

The Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto has dismissed as misleading the circulation of a viral video showing some individuals gathered in front of the Sultan’s Palace while brandishing leaves, clarifying that the footage is old and unrelated to any current development.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the team said the video dates back to the 2024 nationwide protests over rising food prices and economic hardship, adding that it is now being deliberately recirculated out of context by “mischief-makers” to create a false impression of tension between the Sultan and the people of the Caliphate.

The statement stressed that there is no crisis, disagreement, or unrest involving the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and his subjects.

According to the media team, the Sultan has consistently shown concern over the economic hardship facing Nigerians and has continued to advocate policies and measures aimed at improving citizens’ welfare.

The palace also reassured the public that normalcy prevails at the Sultan’s Palace and surrounding areas, noting that there are currently no protests, disturbances, or security threats in or around the palace.

The statement further cautioned against attempts to politicize the Sultanate institution through the circulation of outdated and politically motivated content, urging Nigerians to verify information before sharing it on social media.

It added that spreading old videos to suggest ongoing unrest serves no useful purpose and could undermine efforts toward peace, food security, and national development.
