Wamakko, Danbaba, Umar Ajiya Emerge as APC Senatorial Candidates in Sokoto
The All Progressives Congress on Monday successfully conducted affirmations for its three Senatorial candidates in Sokoto State ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The exercise, which was held peacefully across the state, affirmed Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for Sokoto North Senatorial District, Sen. Abdullahi Danbaba Dambuwa for Sokoto South Senatorial District, and Alhaji Umar Ajiya for Sokoto East Senatorial District.
The affirmations were supervised by a 16-member Election Committee deployed by the national headquarters of the APC, while officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, and other relevant bodies monitored the process across the state.
Among dignitaries who witnessed the exercise were the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, his deputy Engr. Idris Muhammad Gobir, Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, members of the National and State Assemblies, former Deputy Governor Alhaji Chiso Dattijo Abdullahi, and former Zamfara State Deputy Governor Alhaji Hassan Masha.
Speaking during the exercise in Sokoto North Senatorial District, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and State Attorney General, Barrister Nasir Muhammad Binji, said the affirmations were conducted in line with the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and APC regulations.
He noted that Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko emerged as the sole aspirant for the Sokoto North Senatorial seat after successfully purchasing and submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms and scaling through the party’s screening process.
“He was successfully screened and cleared by the APC and is hereby declared as the sole candidate to contest the position,” Binji stated.
Leader of the delegation from the APC National Headquarters, Hon. Hodi Ukashatu, commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the affirmations throughout the state.
In his acceptance speech, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and appreciated the people of Sokoto State for their continued support, prayers, and loyalty to him and the APC.
According to him, Sokoto State remains a strong pillar of the APC, stressing that the history of the party in Nigeria cannot be complete without mentioning the state.
Addressing journalists shortly after the event, Sen. Wamakko said he was deeply honoured by the confidence reposed in him and the party by the people of the state.
He pledged to continue serving humanity, his constituents, Sokoto State, and Nigeria at large, while urging political leaders across the country to carry all citizens along in governance.
“The entire nation must borrow a leaf from Sokoto State,” Wamakko said, adding that elected leaders must see public office as an opportunity to serve the people rather than acquire wealth.
He further called on all APC candidates nationwide to remain committed to delivering improved services and good governance to Nigerians.
