No fewer than two Customs officers were killed in Tugar community, Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, by gunmen.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when the officers were attacked at their checkpoint in the community.
A source who spoke with our correspondent said one of the victims, described as a senior officer, was allegedly burnt alive after the attackers set fire to the place where he was sleeping.
The source said the incident occurred at about 3 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to the source, “The gunmen attacked two checkpoints that are very close to each other.
“They shot one officer and burnt another senior officer alive.
“They came in a truck disguised as people carrying animals, which made the officers unsuspecting.”
The source added that two other officers who sustained gunshot injuries are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
When contacted, the 2IC Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Area Command, Mustapha Mubarak, said the command would issue an official statement after obtaining full details of the incident.
He, however, neither confirmed nor denied the attack, saying, “We will issue a statement once we get the full report.”
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
