The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening joint military operations and deepening inter agency collaboration in response to persistent security challenges in Nigeria’s North West zone.

This was stated on Monday by the General Officer Commanding GOC 8 Division Sokoto, Major General Bemgba Koughna, during a formal engagement with participants of the Air Force War College Course 12/2026, who were on a study tour of the Division’s headquarters in Sokoto State.

Represented by the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Ibrahim Gambari, the GOC said enhanced cooperation among the armed forces and security agencies remains critical to tackling insurgency, banditry, and other threats affecting the region.

He noted that the visit by the Air Force War College participants was timely especially as ongoing operations require closer coordination between air and ground forces

“The Nigerian Army under 8 Division remains fully committe d to enhancing synergy with sister services and other security agencies. Joint efforts such as this are essential in tackling the complex security challenges facing the NorthWest” he said.

Major General Koughna added that ongoing operations, particularly Operation FANSAN YAMMA, are being driven through intelligence-
led strategies and multi agency coordination mechanisms.

“Our operational successes are built on strong collaboration, and we will continue to prioritise joint planning and execution to ensure improved outcomes in our areas of responsibility” he added.

He also commended the Air Force War College for organising the study tour, describing it as an important platform for linking classroom learning with real operational realities.

According to him, such exposure is vital in preparing senior officers for future command and staff responsibilities.

Earlier, the Commandant of the Air Force War College, Air Vice Marshal Gambo Mbaka, said the tour was designed to give participants firsthand knowledge of ongoing security operations across the North West.

He said the programme covered key operational areas in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states, where participants would gain practical insights into joint military engagements in active theatres.

Mbaka added that the tour also featured operational briefings on the structure and activities of the 8 Division and Operation FANSAN YAMMA as well as interactive sessions with security stakeholders aimed at improving participants’ understanding of co ordination frameworks and current security challenges in the region.
