NEMA, Sokoto Corps Marshal Agency Partner on Disaster Response Training
The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA Sokoto Operations Office has strengthened its collaboration with the Sokoto State Corps Marshal Agency to enhance disaster and emergency response in the state.
The partnership was reinforced during a strategic meeting aimed at improving coordination and efficiency in handling emergencies, particularly road traffic incidents where the Corps Marshal often served as first responders.
Speaking during the engagement, the Head of Operations at NEMA Sokoto, Tukur Abubakar, said the visit was to explore areas of mutual cooperation that would boost response capacity.
He proposed to the organization of joint training programmes to build the skills of personnel from both agencies.
Mr. Abubakar also advocated for collaboration in community sensitization campaigns, noting that the Corps Marshal band could be effectively utilized to reach a wider audience with safety awareness messages.
In his response, the Executive Secretary of the Corps Marshal Agency, Usman Kakale, described the initiative as timely and commendable.
He welcomed the proposal for joint training and stressed the need for proactive strategies in disaster management.
Also speaking, the State Commandant, A.S. Sabon-Birni, outlined the structure and operational responsibilities of the Corps, highlighting its readiness to partner with relevant stakeholders to improve service delivery.
The meeting featured an interactive session with participants contributing ideas and raising questions on improving emergency response systems.
At the end of the engagement, both agencies agreed to establish a joint framework that will guide future training programmes and collaborative activities aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness across Sokoto State.
