The Sokoto State Government has recorded significant progress in the implementation of its 9-Point Smart Agenda, Deputy Governor Idris Mohammed Gobir has said.

Gobir made this known during the official unveiling of the 9 Point Smart Innovative Agenda and the launch of the 2025 Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) Report at the Deputy Governor’s Office in Sokoto.

According to him, the achievements are evident in the successes recorded across key sectors, noting that about 70 percent of the state’s 2026 budget has been allocated to infrastructure development.

“This reflects the kind of purposeful governance we promised the people” , he said.

The Deputy Governor, who also chairs the Steering Committee of the agenda, described the newly launched MPI report as a landmark development, providing credible, data driven insights into poverty levels, distribution, and underlying causes in the state.

He noted that findings from the report revealed that insecurity remains a major driver of deprivation, urban areas are grappling with a hidden employment crisis, and nearly one third of the population is asset rich but cash poor.

Represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, Gobir emphasized that the documents are based on facts and not mere rhetoric.

He also commended the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, led by Abubakar Muhammad Zayyana, for its role in developing the policy framework.

In his welcome remarks, the Director of Planning in the ministry, Sani Abdullahi, said the documents would guide government decisions on infrastructure and social services, including education, healthcare, and water supply.

He added that the framework would enable targeted interventions across local government areas and eliminate reliance on assumptions in policymaking.

Development partners, including UNICEF, UNDP, and UNFPA, alongside civil society groups, commended the initiative, describing it as a pioneering effort in Northern Nigeria.

The event was attended by top government officials, including the Chief of Staff, Government House Sokoto, Aminu Haliru Dikko, members of the State Executive Council, and heads of agencies.
