Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Nasiru Gawuna, has stepped down from his role as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).

In a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, Gawuna confirmed that his decision takes immediate effect. He explained that his action follows a directive issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, mandating political appointees with future electoral ambitions to resign in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Deputy Governor of Kano State expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve, describing his time at the bank as a privilege and a chance to contribute to national development.

He stated that his resignation was a deliberate step to comply fully with the President’s directive, emphasizing respect for the law and democratic processes.

Gawuna further noted that he is entrusting his political future to Allah (SWA), while seeking divine guidance on his next move.

He assured that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure a seamless handover of responsibilities in accordance with due process.

Before relinquishing his position at the bank, Gawuna had also resigned his membership from the ruling party, signaling a new phase in his political journey.
