Umar Bature Group Counters Sokoto PDP, Insists on Abuja Convention Participation
A political group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has rejected the state chapter’s decision to distance itself from the party’s ongoing national elective convention in Abuja.
The group, which is backing the re-election of Umar Bature as National Organising Secretary, described the stance credited to the Sokoto PDP Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal, as “false, misleading, and a misrepresentation of facts.”
In a statement issued on Sunday, the group’s Chairman, Dr. Abubakar Danmafara, said the position taken by the state leadership does not reflect the views of the majority of PDP members in Sokoto State.
According to him, Sokoto State remains an integral part of the PDP and cannot be excluded from what he described as a crucial national exercise.
He disclosed that hundreds of party faithful from the state are already in Abuja to participate in the convention, which is reportedly backed by stakeholders aligned with Nyesom Wike.
Danmafara said the presence of the group’s supporters in Abuja demonstrates their commitment to the unity and progress of the party, as well as their support for Bature’s re -election bid.
He added that members of the group are fully mobilised to take part in the electoral process, stressing the need for internal democracy and credible leadership within the party.
The group also urged party members to disregard any directive discouraging participation in the convention, insisting that such involvement is both legitimate and necessary.
Reaffirming its loyalty to the PDP, the organisation called on party leaders at all levels to prioritise unity, dialogue, and inclusiveness in resolving the party’s internal crisis.
The development comes amid ongoing leadership disagreements within the PDP over the conduct of its national convention.
