Tragedy in Kano: 8-Year-Old Girl Dies After Falling on Iron Rod at a Construction Site

An eight-year-old girl, Siyama Idris, has tragically lost her life after falling onto an exposed iron rod at a road and drainage construction site in Tudun Wada, within Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident reportedly happened on Saturday close to Tudun Wada Primary School, where road and drainage works are currently underway.

According to the Daily Trust Newspaper, different eyewitnesses said, the young girl had been sent to a nearby shop to purchase items for the Ramadan iftar meal when the accident occurred. While attempting to cross the drainage through a temporary wooden plank bridge used by residents, she slipped and fell onto an uncovered iron rod that was part of the construction structure.

A resident of the area, Aminu Adamu, said the rod pierced the girl’s stomach, leading to her immediate death.

Another resident, Balarabe Isah, explained that the plank bridge has long served as the only crossing point for residents due to the lack of a proper pedestrian passage at the construction site.

Residents have since raised concerns over the unsafe conditions at the site, pointing to exposed metal rods and open drainage edges that pose serious dangers to pedestrians. They called on authorities and contractors to enforce proper safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
