ADC Demands Probe into Demolition of Private Property in Kebbi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has called for an immediate, independent and transparent investigation into the reported demolition of a developed private property in Birnin Kebbi.
The party’s Kebbi State Campaign Council made the demand in a press release issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, following the reported demolition of a property located at Plot No. 21, TPO/99 Commercial Layout, East of KBTA Site, Birnin Kebbi.
According to the council, the property, covered by Right of Occupancy No. B1/G/8959, was allegedly demolished on Friday despite claims that it had been legally acquired and substantially developed by its owners.
The council cited a petition dated February 25, 2026, which stated that the property was purchased in 2022 for ₦48 million, reportedly paid in full, after which the owners took possession, fenced the land and invested considerably in its development.
It further disclosed that the property was believed to be connected to the business interests of the ADC governorship candidate in the state, stressing the need for an impartial investigation free from political interference or assumptions about ownership and responsibility.
The party also alleged that the petition raised earlier concerns over forceful entry, intimidation and excavation on the property, although it acknowledged that the allegations had yet to be independently established.
The ADC urged the police and relevant government authorities to establish who ordered and carried out the demolition, determine its legal basis and investigate the earlier allegations.
Among its demands, the party called for the public identification of the individuals, agencies or authorities responsible for the action, a clear explanation of its legal justification and appropriate legal consequences for anyone found to have acted unlawfully.
It also demanded accountability and prosecution of public officials, security personnel, government agencies or private individuals found to have authorised, facilitated or carried out the demolition in violation of the law.
The council further called for the protection of the affected property owners and other parties against threats, intimidation and harassment throughout the investigation.
Addressing the Kebbi State Government, the ADC said public office carries the responsibility to uphold the law and protect the rights of all citizens, irrespective of their political differences, family backgrounds or perceived political affiliations.
The party maintained that it was not seeking special treatment but a fair, transparent and lawful process capable of establishing the facts and ensuring accountability.
It urged the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, to treat the matter seriously and ensure that the investigation was conducted impartially.
The council warned that the incident could undermine public confidence in property security and the investment climate in the state, stressing that Kebbi’s reputation as a place to live, work and invest depends on respect for the rule of law and the fair administration of justice.
