EFCC Establishes Directorate to Monitor State Governments Funds

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has adopted a strategy aimed at preventing corruption and financial crimes rather than focusing solely on prosecuting offenders after the crimes have been committed.
The Chairman of the Commission, Olanipekun Olukayode, disclosed this while delivering a special lecture to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the creation of Zamfara State in Gusau.
The special lecture organised as part of the Zamfara State 30th anniversary celebration provided a platform for stakeholders to reflect on the state’s achievements and challenges over the past three decades, as well as chart a way forward.
The lecture focused on key issues, including accountability, security and sustainable development.
The EFCC Chairman, who was the special guest speaker, said the Commission was strengthening preventive measures to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.
He disclosed that the Commission had established a directorate responsible for monitoring the inflow and outflow of state government funds to prevent the diversion and embezzlement of public resources.
He added that EFCC officials had also been included in meetings of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to monitor allocations to state governments and ensure transparency and accountability in the management and expenditure of public funds.
