Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has sworn in five new Permanent Secretaries into the state civil service, charging them to uphold public service rules, financial regulations and other relevant laws in the discharge of their duties.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Thursday at the Grand Chamber of the Government House in Gusau, where the Chief Judge of Zamfara State, Justice Kulu Aliyu, administered the oath of office to the appointees.

The newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are Ahmad S. Zamfara, Nasiru Halilu Anka, Mu’azu Jibril Guraguri, Adamu Abdullahi Kanoma and Sani Muhammad Shinkafi.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Lawal congratulated the appointees, describing their appointments as recognition of their experience, competence and readiness to take on greater responsibilities in the state civil service.

He emphasised that the position of Permanent Secretary carries significant responsibilities, noting that their decisions and conduct directly influence government performance and the welfare of the people.

According to the governor, Permanent Secretaries play crucial roles in providing administrative leadership, ensuring institutional continuity, advising on policies, maintaining discipline and coordinating government establishments.

Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening government institutions, improving public administration and ensuring effective delivery of essential services across the state.

He said the civil service remained a critical instrument for translating government policies and decisions into tangible development outcomes.

The governor urged the new appointees to align their activities with his administration’s priorities, stressing the importance of proper planning, realistic implementation strategies, effective supervision and continuous evaluation of results.

He also called on them to maintain professional relationships with commissioners and other political officeholders, explaining that political leaders formulate policies while career civil servants provide the technical expertise and administrative capacity required for implementation.

Lawal noted that mutual respect and cooperation between political officeholders and career civil servants were essential to effective governance.
