Troops Rescue 33 Abducted Passengers in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, have rescued 33 passengers abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The victims were rescued on Saturday after security personnel received information that terrorists had intercepted commuters travelling through the Magazu area of the local government.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to him, troops of Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, working alongside police personnel, swiftly mobilised to the area following the report of the abduction.
Danja said the security forces encountered the terrorists while they were moving the abducted passengers to an undisclosed location.
He explained that the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the victims and escape into nearby bushes.
“The troops engaged the terrorists with effective fire, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into adjoining bushes,” Danja said.
He added that all 33 victims were subsequently rescued safely, with no casualties recorded during the operation.
Danja further disclosed that troops had commenced a search operation in the area as efforts continued to track down the fleeing terrorists.
The Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their prompt response and professionalism, urging them to sustain the momentum in the fight against terrorism and other criminal activities.
He also called on residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information on the activities and movements of terrorists and other criminal elements in their communities.
