Troops Bust Alleged Lakurawa Cattle Sale Operation, Arrest Four Suspects in Sokoto

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested four suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group during a security operation at Darusa village market of Gudu local government in Sokoto State, recovering six cows believed to have been rustled, PR Nigeria reported.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was carried out on August 6, 2026, after intelligence reports indicated that suspected members of the terrorist group planned to sell livestock stolen from communities within the state at the market.
Acting on the intelligence, the troops stormed the market and apprehended four suspects allegedly involved in the illegal transaction. The operation also led to the recovery of six suspected rustled cattle, two mobile phones and N165,000 believed to be proceeds from the planned sale.
The suspects were identified as Usman Bammo, 45, of Huss Village in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State; Muhammadu Dage, 25, from Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi State Ali Usman, 23, of Binji Local Government Area of Sokoto State and Abubakar Garba, 30, of Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Military authorities said the suspects are currently undergoing preliminary interrogation in military custody and will be handed over to the appropriate security agencies for further investigation and prosecution after the initial inquiry.
The arrest is the latest in a series of operations by Operation FANSAN YAMMA aimed at disrupting terrorist logistics, preventing the sale of rustled livestock, dismantling criminal networks and enhancing security across the North-West.
