Tambuwal: Fika’s Death Deeply Personal to Me
By Nafiu Muhammad Lema
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has expressed deep sadness over the death of Dr. Adamu Mohammed Fika, former Clerk to the National Assembly and former Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission.
Tambuwal, in a condolence message, described Fika as a distinguished public servant, seasoned administrator and respected elder statesman whose decades of service contributed significantly to the development and professionalisation of the National Assembly bureaucracy.
He said Fika’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic and institutional development would remain significant, particularly his efforts in strengthening the administrative structure of the National Assembly and mentoring generations of public servants.
The former Speaker also recalled his personal relationship with the deceased, which dated back to 1992.
According to him, while Fika was Clerk to the National Assembly, he facilitated the employment of Alhaji Sani Magaji, Alhaji Yusuf Tambuwal and Alhaji Atiku Ibrahim Tambuwal into the National Assembly through the late Alhaji Yusuf Tambuwal, who served as his Personal Assistant, and Hon. Abdullahi Waziri Tambuwal, then a member of the House of Representatives.
Tambuwal noted that the three beneficiaries later rose through the ranks of the National Assembly, with Sani Magaji eventually becoming Clerk to the National Assembly, Yusuf Tambuwal rising to the position of Director, Legislative Aides, while Atiku Ibrahim Tambuwal currently serves as Secretary, Finance and Accounts.
He further recalled that years later, while serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives, he recommended Fika for appointment as Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission and supported his eventual appointment.
Tambuwal described the development as a “full-circle moment,” noting that Fika, who had earlier helped create opportunities for people from his community, was later supported by him to return to serve an institution to which he had dedicated much of his professional life.
“His passing is, therefore, deeply personal to me,” Tambuwal said.
He added that Fika’s death was a loss not only to his immediate family and the Fika Emirate, but also to the people of Tambuwal, the National Assembly community, Yobe State and Nigeria.
Tambuwal extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the Fika Emirate Council, the Government and people of Yobe State, as well as the leadership and management of the National Assembly.
