Tambuwal Bemoans Renewed Bandit Attacks in Sokoto, Calls for Urgent Security Action
Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has expressed deep concern over renewed attacks by bandits and terrorists in parts of the state, calling for urgent and coordinated action to protect vulnerable communities.
Tambuwal, in a statement issued by his media office on Wednesday, condoled with the people of Kebbe Local Government Area over the recent violence, as well as the family and colleagues of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Hussaini Balarabe, who was reportedly killed during a gun battle with armed bandits in the area.
He described the killing of the police officer as “deeply painful and unacceptable,” noting that the loss of every life represents an irreparable tragedy for families and communities.
“The death of ASP Hussaini Balarabe in the line of duty is a painful reminder of the enormous sacrifices our security personnel make every day to protect our people. We mourn his death and commend his courage and dedication to duty,” Tambuwal said.
The former governor also expressed sympathy with residents of Shagari Local Government Area following renewed terrorist attacks, including abductions and livestock rustling that have heightened fear and insecurity in the area.
He called for adequate protection for affected communities, stressing that residents should be able to return to their homes, farms and livelihoods without fear.
Tambuwal also extended his condolences to the people of Sabon Birni Local Government Area, where communities have continued to experience deadly attacks, killings and abductions by armed groups.
He warned that the recurring attacks were not only threatening lives and property but also undermining agriculture, commerce and the socio-economic wellbeing of rural communities.
The senator commended security personnel for their courage and dedication in confronting armed criminal groups despite the risks involved.
He urged governments at all levels and security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, surveillance and rapid-response capabilities, while sustaining coordinated and adequately resourced military and police operations in vulnerable communities.
“We must strengthen intelligence gathering, surveillance, and rapid-response mechanisms. Security operations must be sustained, coordinated, and adequately resourced until these communities are safe and the criminal elements are decisively dealt with,” he stressed.
Tambuwal further urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue all persons still in captivity and ensure that those responsible for the attacks are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
He also appealed to residents to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information, while urging traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to strengthen cooperation in efforts to restore peace.
“Security is a collective responsibility. Government, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and citizens must work together and share credible information to defeat the forces of criminality threatening our communities,” he said.
The senator prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed, the recovery of those injured and the safe return of all persons still in captivity.
He also prayed for lasting peace, security and stability to return to Kebbe, Shagari, Sabon Birni and other communities affected by banditry and terrorism across Sokoto State.
“May Almighty Allah grant eternal rest to those who lost their lives, comfort their families, protect those still in captivity, and restore lasting peace to our communities. The people of Sokoto deserve to live in peace, security, and dignity,” Tambuwal said.
