Sokoto First Lady Disburses N17m to 17 Mothers of Triplets
The wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, has supported 17 mothers of triplets across the state with N17 million in cash, food items and baby-care materials.
The intervention, organised through the Sokoto State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, was presented on Saturday at the Government House, Sokoto, as part of efforts to ease the financial burden faced by families caring for multiple newborns.
Represented at the ceremony by the Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Khadija Ahmad Shagari, the First Lady described children as precious gifts from Almighty Allah, urging the beneficiaries to regard the birth of triplets as a blessing rather than a burden.
Each of the 17 beneficiaries received N1 million, three bags of rice, two bags of millet, 30 sets of baby clothes, large-size diapers, a carton of milk and soap. Each mother also received 10 sets of guinea brocade.
Hajiya Fatima said the package was designed to provide immediate assistance to the families, particularly in meeting the nutritional, healthcare and general welfare needs of their children.
She reiterated her commitment to supporting women and children, especially vulnerable and less privileged families, through humanitarian assistance, empowerment initiatives and other social intervention programmes.
The First Lady urged the beneficiaries to use the assistance judiciously, particularly for the feeding, healthcare and wellbeing of their triplets.
She also appealed to wealthy individuals and other members of society to extend support to vulnerable families, stressing that collective assistance would strengthen compassion, solidarity and peaceful coexistence in the state.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Alhaji Aliyu Ladan Isa, said the intervention reflected the state government’s commitment to improving the welfare of women, children and vulnerable families.
Ladan Isa commended Hajiya Fatima for her humanitarian initiatives and advocacy for women, children, orphans and other vulnerable groups, while also praising Governor Ahmed Aliyu for providing an enabling environment for social welfare programmes.
He disclosed that the ministry had recently supported 500 women with livelihood interventions, while more than 16,000 people had benefited from N-CARES cash-transfer programmes.
According to him, the ministry had also sustained food distribution to women during Ramadan, implemented skills-acquisition programmes and upgraded facilities, including the renovation and transformation of the Women Development Centre into a modern facility.
The beneficiaries of the latest intervention were drawn from Shagari, Gwadabawa, Tangaza, Yabo, Gada, Wurno, Goronyo, Wamakko and Binji Local Government Areas.
