Sokoto Declares Work-Free Day to Boost INEC Voter Registration

The Sokoto State Government has declared Friday, July 24, 2026, a work-free day to enable civil servants of voting age who are yet to register as voters to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director General of Media and Publicity, Government House Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa.

According to the statement, Governor Ahmed Aliyu urged all eligible civil servants who have not yet registered to take advantage of the work-free day to complete their voter registration and secure their PVCs ahead of the next general elections.

The governor said the decision reflects his administration’s commitment to ensuring that civil servants are given every opportunity to participate in national assignments and exercise their civic rights.

Governor Aliyu also appealed to members of the public who are not civil servants, especially those who have not yet registered or have recently attained the eligible voting age, to make use of the two-week extension of the voter registration exercise to register and obtain their PVCs.

The state government noted that the extended voter registration exercise is scheduled to end on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
