Rep Bashir Gorau Mourns Victims of Gorau Boat Mishap

Member representing Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Bashir Gorau, has expressed deep condolences to the people of Goronyo over the tragic boat mishap in Gorau Town, Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The lawmaker said the incident had reportedly claimed 48 lives, while several others were still missing, describing the tragedy as painful and devastating to the affected communities.

In a condolence message, Gorau sympathised with the bereaved families and all those affected by the incident, praying to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and give their families the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

The lawmaker also renewed his call for urgent measures to address recurring boat and flood-related tragedies in the area, particularly the desilting of Goronyo Dam.

He said he had consistently advocated the desilting of the dam and other safety measures, stressing the need for practical and lasting solutions to prevent similar tragedies from occurring every year.

“As your representative in the National Assembly, I have consistently called for the desilting of Goronyo Dam and other urgent measures to address the recurring boat and flooding-related tragedies in our communities,” he said.

Gorau pledged to continue working with relevant authorities to ensure that appropriate interventions are implemented to improve safety and protect residents of the constituency.

He further prayed for the safe recovery of those still missing, while urging the people to remain united and supportive of one another during the period of mourning.

“May Allah have mercy on the deceased and comfort us. Ameen,” the lawmaker added.
