Sokoto APC Replies Dan’iya, Says FAAC Allocations Are Publicly Available
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has criticised the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Manir Dan’iya, over his demand for the disclosure of funds received by the state government from the Federation Account since May 2023.
The APC said allocations to states from the Federation Account were already in the public domain, describing Dan’iya’s demand as unnecessary.
In a press release issued on Tuesday and signed by Abubakar Bawa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, the party said the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu operated on the principles of prudence, accountability and transparency.
The party argued that government transactions, including approvals for projects at State Executive Council meetings, were made public, adding that the state government had continued to demonstrate transparency through its activities.
The APC also criticised the administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, in which Dan’iya served as deputy governor, alleging that it left behind unpaid pensioners’ gratuities, outstanding debts and other financial liabilities.
According to the party, the previous administration left unpaid electricity bills running into billions of naira, alongside outstanding student registration and tuition fees exceeding ₦5 billion, as well as unpaid sabbatical allowances for visiting lecturers.
It, however, said the current administration had cleared the inherited liabilities, including outstanding payments owed to students.
The party further stated that the Aliyu-led government had implemented the new minimum wage for state and local government workers, including Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) staff.
It added that the administration had recruited 3,100 workers for various ministries, departments and agencies, alongside 2,400 health workers and 1,550 personnel for the Sokoto Marshal.
The APC said these measures were part of the government’s efforts to improve public service delivery and strengthen security, alongside projects in road infrastructure, water supply, education, healthcare and rural development.
The party also claimed that some projects abandoned by the previous administration, including the Rijiya Flyover and Tashar Illela Road project, had either been completed or were at various stages of completion under the present government.
As political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election gather momentum, the APC said it would seek re-election based on its record of achievements and projects delivered across the state.
It challenged Dan’iya to explain the achievements of the Tambuwal administration during his tenure as deputy governor, insisting that the ADC candidate should account for the previous government’s performance rather than demand information it described as publicly available.
The statement reaffirmed the APC’s intention to continue raising questions about the previous administration’s record throughout the campaign period.
