2027: PDP, APGA, Accord Party Have Joined Tinubu’s Re-Election Campaign, Says APC Chairman
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Accord Party are supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yilwatda made the claim on Tuesday while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with President Tinubu alongside the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, to discuss preparations for the party’s presidential campaign.
According to the APC chairman, the alleged support from opposition parties reflects a growing political alignment behind Tinubu as the ruling party prepares to commence its nationwide campaign.
He said the APC had concluded arrangements for the formal launch of its presidential campaign in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Yilwatda maintained that political parties that had previously defeated the APC in elections were now part of the campaign supporting the President.
“If you look at what the party is doing now, the oppositions are with us. All political parties that have defeated us in any election are all with us; PDP is with us, APGA is with us, Accord Party with us. These are the only political parties that have defeated us, except APM, and they are all with us in this campaign,” he said.
He added that the development demonstrated the extent of political support he believes Tinubu enjoys ahead of the next presidential election.
“It shows that the entire Nigerian political cycle is Mr. President, and that’s what we’re doing now to ensure that we prepare for this grand flag-off in Kaduna,” Yilwatda stated.
However, the APC chairman did not clarify whether the claimed support represented formal endorsements by the national leaderships of the opposition parties or alliances involving individual politicians and groups within them.
He expressed confidence in the level of preparedness for the campaign launch, saying the party’s leadership, campaign committees and state structures were ready for the exercise.
“We’ll flag off the campaign on Saturday, 24th of October, and as you can see, we’re together with the DG to brief Mr. President on the preparation for the flag-off.
“For now, everything is set; the preparation is on, the members are motivated, the states, the committees are ready, and everything that is supposed to be done has been done,” he said.
Yari Promises Issue-Based Campaign
Speaking separately, Yari said the APC presidential campaign would focus on the achievements of the Tinubu administration rather than personal attacks against opposition candidates.
The former Zamfara State governor said the campaign council had resolved to adopt a responsible and issue-based approach, presenting the Federal Government’s record to Nigerians as justification for seeking another mandate in 2027.
According to him, the ruling party would avoid insults and name-calling, choosing instead to highlight its performance in government.
“As a Council, what we say we are going to do? We are going to do a campaign with the records. A responsible campaign, no insults, no calling of names because there’s no name before us, but we have a record before us to show to Nigerians,” Yari said.
He urged Nigerians to assess the administration’s policies and programmes before deciding whether to support Tinubu for another four-year term.
“This is what our party did, this what our government did, so because of that, we are asking, pleading Nigerians to look at this record carefully so that they give us a second chance for continuity,” he added.
The meeting with Tinubu comes as the APC intensifies preparations for its 2027 presidential campaign, with Kaduna selected as the venue for the official nationwide campaign launch.
Yari had earlier disclosed, after meeting with the President on October 9, that Tinubu had approved the campaign timetable, including planned visits to states across the country.
