PDP Leadership Crisis: Interim NWC Heads to Appeal After Court Strikes Out Suit

The leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took another turn on Friday as the Interim National Working Committee (NWC) led by Kabiru Turaki announced plans to appeal a Federal High Court judgment striking out its suit seeking official recognition.

In a statement signed by the Interim National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the committee said the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim, upheld the preliminary objection raised by the defendants and dismissed the case filed by the party’s Board of Trustees and some founding leaders.

According to the statement, the court ruled that the dispute concerns the leadership of the PDP, describing it as an internal party affair beyond the court’s jurisdiction.

Despite expressing respect for the judgment, the Interim NWC said it disagreed with the ruling, arguing that it conflicts with existing decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

The committee disclosed that it has instructed its legal team to immediately file an appeal, expressing confidence that the appellate courts would overturn the decision.

It maintained that the legal battle is aimed at protecting internal democracy, the principles of justice, and Nigeria’s multi-party system.
