Osun Guber: Police Arrest Lawmaker, 146 Suspected Political Thugs in Ikire
The Osun State Police Command has arrested a serving member of the State House of Assembly, Abiola Inaolaji, alongside 146 suspected political thugs in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiosun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrests on Saturday in Osogbo.
According to Ojelabi, Inaolaji, who represents the Irewole/Isokan State Constituency on the platform of the Accord Party, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday during a security operation involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
He said the operation formed part of intensified security measures deployed by the police to prevent activities capable of compromising the integrity and credibility of the Osun governorship election.
Meanwhile, a viral video obtained by a NAN correspondent showed a man identified as Ibrahim claiming responsibility for facilitating the movement of 146 people from neighbouring states into Osun.
In the video, Ibrahim allegedly said the individuals were brought into the state for the purpose of participating in the governorship election.
The police have yet to disclose further details on the identities of the other suspects or the specific allegations against them.
The arrests come amid heightened security operations across Osun as authorities seek to prevent electoral violence, vote manipulation and other activities capable of undermining the peaceful conduct of the poll.
