NBTE Approves ND Artificial Intelligence Programme for Kebbi State Poly

Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari, has secured approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to commence the National Diploma (ND) programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI) from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval makes the institution the only polytechnic in Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states authorised to offer the newly introduced ND Artificial Intelligence programme.
The development places Dakingari Polytechnic among 41 polytechnics and allied institutions nationwide that have met the requirements set by the NBTE for the programme.
In a statement issued by the Executive Secretary of the NBTE and communicated to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Board said the new programme would be introduced in eligible Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country.
According to the NBTE, the programme is designed to emphasise practical and hands-on learning, with students expected to acquire skills in computer programming, artificial intelligence laboratories, digital systems, microcontrollers and AI projects, including capstone development.
The Board also disclosed that lecturers and technologists from eligible institutions had undergone specialised training to prepare them for effective delivery of the programme.
Following assessment and confirmation that it had met the required conditions, Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari, was included among the 41 institutions approved to commence the programme.
The approval adds to the growing list of academic and institutional achievements recorded by the Polytechnic under the leadership of its Rector, Dr. Boyi Dallatu.
The institution said its administration had continued to focus on academic expansion, programme accreditation and improved standards, while creating opportunities for students to acquire skills relevant to the changing demands of the global economy.
The Polytechnic said the AI programme would expose students to areas including programming, digital systems, automation, emerging technologies and technology-driven innovation.
It added that the programme would provide young people in the region with an opportunity to develop careers in one of the world’s fastest-growing technological fields, as industries increasingly adopt artificial intelligence across sectors.
Reacting to the development, the Rector of Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari, Dr. Boyi Dallatu, described the approval as another demonstration of the institution’s commitment to providing quality, relevant and future-focused education.
Dallatu called on parents, guardians and prospective students to take advantage of the opportunity by seeking admission into the programme through JAMB.
He particularly encouraged young people interested in technology, programming and innovation to consider the Polytechnic as a destination for building careers in Artificial Intelligence and other emerging fields.
The institution described the approval as a major step towards positioning Dakingari Polytechnic as a hub for technology and innovation in the Kebbi-Sokoto-Zamfara axis.
It said the development would further strengthen its efforts to prepare students for the emerging digital economy and the future of work.
