NABTEB Records 81% Pass Rate as 2026 NBC/NTC Results Are Released
The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results of the June/July 2026 National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations, recording an 81 percent pass rate.
NABTEB Registrar, Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, announced the results on Wednesday at a press briefing held at the board’s headquarters in Benin City, Edo State.
According to him, 79,504 candidates, representing 81 percent of the 97,867 candidates who sat for the examinations, obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
He said the figure represents a significant improvement over the 2025 examination, when 61,104 candidates, or 68 percent, achieved the same standard.
Mohammed further disclosed that 89,580 candidates, representing 91 percent of those who sat for the 2026 examinations, obtained five credits and above, whether or not English Language and Mathematics were included.
In comparison, 74,633 candidates, representing 83 percent, recorded the same achievement in the 2025 examination cycle.
The registrar attributed the improved performance to the collective efforts of candidates, teachers, schools, parents and other stakeholders in the education sector.
He also disclosed that 24,128 candidates, representing 24 percent, were certified as craftsmen, describing the development as significant to NABTEB’s mandate of promoting practical skills and occupational competence.
The examinations were conducted nationwide from June 15 to July 13, 2026, across 2,144 centres.
Mohammed said 100,069 candidates registered for the examinations, compared with 92,876 candidates in 2025, representing an increase of 7,193 registrations.
He added that the number of examination centres also rose from 1,892 in 2025 to 2,144 in 2026. Candidates took examinations in engineering, construction, miscellaneous trades, business and general education subjects.
Of the 100,069 registered candidates, 97,867 sat for the examinations, translating to a 97.80 percent attendance rate.
On examination malpractice, the NABTEB registrar said 847 candidates were implicated in 1,554 incidents, representing 1.55 percent of candidates who sat for the examinations.
He said the board would continue to deploy technology to minimise human errors, improve efficiency, strengthen examination security and ensure greater credibility in its assessment processes.
