Kebbi 2027: Accord Candidate Promises N500,000 Minimum Wage, Free Farm Inputs

By Yusuf Gwandu

The Accord Party governorship candidate in Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Bunza, has pledged to pay a minimum wage of N500,000 to the least-paid civil servant in the state if elected governor in 2027.

Bunza made the promise on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi while speaking at the Candidates Engagement Forum organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kebbi State Council.

The candidate said the current take-home pay of Nigerian workers does not reflect the prevailing economic realities, describing the welfare of civil servants as a major concern that requires urgent attention.

He said, “If I am elected Governor of Kebbi, I will ensure that the least-paid worker goes home with N500,000.”

According to him, the proposed wage would improve workers’ welfare and restore dignity to the civil service, which he described as a critical component of national development.

Bunza said Nigeria had the resources to pay workers a living wage, arguing that governments should adopt policies that would improve the standard of living of citizens.

He said his decision to contest the governorship was not motivated by personal ambition, but by what he described as a desire to “liberate Kebbi and the people of Kebbi.”

Security

On security, the Accord candidate identified the fight against banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities as one of the major priorities of his administration if elected.

He criticised the current approach to insecurity, saying more needed to be done by governments at all levels to protect lives and property.

Bunza pledged to adopt a more decisive approach to security and restore peace and confidence among residents of the state.

Agriculture

The candidate also promised to transform Kebbi’s agricultural sector, saying his experience as a farmer would enable him to develop practical policies for the sector.

He said his administration would provide free fertilisers, chemicals and other agricultural inputs to smallholder and large-scale farmers to increase food production.

Bunza further pledged to promote mechanised farming through the procurement of tractors and other agricultural machinery.

“My mission is to make Kebbi an agricultural hub of this nation,” he said.

Healthcare

On healthcare, the Accord candidate promised to upgrade hospitals across the state and equip them with modern medical facilities.

He said his administration would also ensure the availability of medicines in hospitals across urban and rural communities, with a commitment to providing them to patients free of charge.

Bunza said the objective would be to improve healthcare delivery and reduce the need for residents to travel outside the country for medical treatment.

He appealed to the people of Kebbi State to support the Accord Party and vote for candidates who, according to him, have the capacity to address the challenges facing the state.
