IHRC-RFT Urges Sokoto Govt, Security Agencies to Act Over Sheikh Lukuwa Controversy

The International Human Rights Commission –Relief Fund Trust (IHRC-RFT) has called on the Sokoto State Government and security agencies to take urgent action against individuals threatening to take the law into their own hands, particularly in connection with the controversy surrounding Sheikh Musa Lukuwa.
In a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday night, the organisation’s Director of Public Relations in Sokoto State condemned what it described as the failure of security agencies to act on certain statements attributed to Sheikh Musa Lukuwa and claims made by some youths concerning the cleric.
The organisation warned that such statements could provoke tension and unrest, while threats allegedly made by armed youths could further escalate the situation and trigger violence in the state.
IHRC-RFT therefore urged the Sokoto State Government and security agencies to take immediate measures to prevent any development capable of causing renewed conflict.
The organisation also called on relevant authorities to ensure strict adherence to the rule of law while protecting peace, security, lives and property across Sokoto State.
