Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has flagged off the construction of 95 kilometres of roads and five bridges in Tsafe Local Government Area, saying the project will boost economic activities and strengthen security operations in the area.
The project, flagged off on Sunday, covers the roads linking Yandoton Daji, Cediya, Doka, Yan Waren Daji, Hayin Alhaji Bedi, Unguwar Joji and Yankuzo to Tsafe.
According to the state government, the project has been divided into two phases, with the first 47-kilometre phase awarded to SKY Construction Company, while Setraco Construction Company Limited will execute the second phase covering 48 kilometres.
Governor Lawal said the roads connect predominantly agricultural communities that play an important role in Zamfara’s economy.
He said the project was prioritised as part of his administration’s efforts to restore peace and stability in the state, noting that improved road infrastructure would facilitate the movement of goods and enhance the mobility of security agencies.
“Reconstructing this road will enhance the movement of goods and the mobility of security agencies, thereby improving operational capacity and response to threats or attacks,” Lawal said.
The governor said the project formed part of a broader infrastructure renewal programme across Zamfara, alongside major road projects including the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau Road, Zurmi–Rukudawa Road and Mallamawa–Bukkuyum Road with a spur to Masamar Mudi.
He said the administration recognised the importance of quality roads to safe transportation, economic growth and improved community life.
Lawal directed the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to ensure rigorous supervision, quality assurance and strict compliance with approved engineering standards throughout the construction.
He also warned contractors handling government projects to deliver value for money and infrastructure capable of standing the test of time.
The governor expressed optimism that the completed road would improve transportation and security while strengthening connections among communities and contributing to the economic development of Zamfara State.
