Defence Minister Dismisses Resignation Rumours, Vows Legal Action

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has dismissed reports claiming he plans to resign from office, describing the speculation as false and malicious.

Speaking with State House correspondents after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, Musa said he had never considered stepping down and warned that those responsible for spreading the rumour would face legal action.

The minister said he was surprised by the reports, insisting they were aimed at creating unnecessary doubt about the government’s progress in addressing security challenges.

He explained that his meeting with President Tinubu was a routine security briefing during which the president expressed satisfaction with the military’s ongoing operations and the improvements recorded across the country.

Musa also commended Nigerians for their continued support for the armed forces, stressing that lasting success against terrorism and banditry requires cooperation between security agencies and the public.

“I am not going anywhere. I have never discussed this. I don’t even know who brought out that information. Whoever is behind it, we will take legal action,” Musa said.

He added:
“I just came back from briefing Mr President on the current security situation, and he is very happy with us. We are going to continue doing well.”

The defence minister further urged citizens to remain supportive of the military’s efforts.

“To defeat terrorists and bandits requires a whole-of-society approach. Nigerians have keyed into it, things are getting better, and they will continue to improve,” he said.
