Dasuki Condemns Kebbe Attack, Calls for More Troops and Modern Weapons

The Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and member representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency, Abdussamad Dasuki, has condemned the deadly attack on Kebbe town and surrounding communities in Sokoto State.

The attack, which occurred on Friday morning, reportedly claimed the lives of four military officers and several civilians.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Dasuki described the incident as tragic and unacceptable, expressing condolences to the families of the deceased and affected communities.

“I strongly condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the tragic attack on Kebbe town and surrounding villages on Friday morning, which claimed the lives of four military officers and several civilians,” he said.

The lawmaker said the protection of lives and property remained his foremost responsibility as a representative of the people, noting that he had consistently focused his legislative interventions on the security challenges confronting the country.

“From Tambuwal to Kebbe, and other parts of Sokoto, we now live in a climate of fear and constant uncertainty. Our villages are being ravaged and pillaged by banditry day after day,” Dasuki said.

He expressed particular concern over the worsening security situation in Kebbe, where farming and cattle rearing constitute major sources of livelihood for residents.

According to him, persistent attacks have made both economic activities increasingly difficult and dangerous for communities in the area.

Dasuki called on the Federal, State and Local Governments to adopt more proactive measures to tackle banditry, including the deployment of additional troops and provision of modern weapons and equipment for security personnel.

“I therefore call on governments at all levels, from the Federal Government to the State and Local Governments, to take more proactive and decisive measures to end this menace, particularly by deploying more troops and equipping them with modern weapons,” he said.

The lawmaker also pledged to intensify engagement with the military and other security stakeholders to ensure that Kebbe and Tambuwal Local Government Areas receive urgent attention and the security priority they require.

“On my part as lawmaker, I will continue to discharge my responsibilities by actively engaging with the military and other relevant security stakeholders to ensure that Kebbe and Tambuwal local governments receive the urgent attention and security priority they deserve,” he added.

Dasuki extended his condolences to residents of Kebbe metropolitan area, Umbutu, Barga, Gwandi, Zugu and other communities affected by the attack.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and for strength and patience for their families and communities.

“May Almighty Allah forgive the departed souls and grant them Paradise, and may He grant their families and communities the strength and patience to bear this painful loss,” he said.
