Army Rescues 10 Civilians in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 civilians during separate operations in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement shared on Thursday, saying the operations were part of ongoing efforts to protect civilians and restore security across the North-West.
According to the statement, troops on patrol in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State came under attack from terrorists on August 19.
The soldiers responded immediately, forcing the attackers to retreat. Five civilians were rescued during the encounter and later reunited with their families. Two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists were also recovered.
In Kebbi State, troops on August 18 acted on intelligence concerning three kidnapped persons in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area. A search-and-rescue operation was launched, leading to the safe recovery of all three victims.
The rescued persons were profiled before being handed over to the relevant local authorities.
Also on August 18, troops responded to reports of terrorist activity in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Their swift deployment forced the terrorists to withdraw, leaving behind two captives.
The two victims, who sustained gunshot wounds while in captivity, were evacuated to a medical facility for immediate treatment.
The Joint Task Force said operations were continuing to locate and neutralise the fleeing terrorists.
It commended the troops for their alertness and prompt response, while assuring residents that security forces would maintain pressure on terrorist groups operating within the Joint Operations Area.
The command also urged members of the public to continue providing security agencies with timely and credible information to support ongoing operations and protect lives and property.
