ADC Faults KUDA Over Planned Eviction of Vegetable Seller in Birnin Kebbi, Demands Billboard Revenue Disclosure

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has criticised the Kebbi Urban Development Authority (KUDA) over a reported directive ordering a cabbage and Irish potato seller near Nagari College in Birnin Kebbi to vacate his trading spot within seven days.

The party described the action as harsh and called on the authority to adopt a more compassionate approach to urban planning and enforcement, particularly where the livelihoods of small-scale traders are concerned.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, and signed by Bello Abdullahi, Director of Strategic Communications, ADC Kebbi Campaign Council, the party argued that the trader was earning an honest living and supporting his family through the sale of essential food items.

The ADC questioned whether the trader posed a greater threat to urban order than the numerous billboards displayed across Birnin Kebbi and other parts of the state.

It also demanded clarification from KUDA on the authorisation, fees, and revenue generated from billboards, alleging that many of them promote the governor, his wife, government officials, and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party challenged the authority to disclose how billboard permits were issued, whether the prescribed fees were paid, and how much revenue had been remitted to the state government.

It further called on KUDA to publish a comprehensive list of approved billboard locations in Birnin Kebbi and other urban centres, details of permits issued, fees charged and collected, and enforcement actions taken against owners who violated applicable regulations.

The ADC maintained that urban development regulations should be enforced fairly, without targeting low-income traders while allegedly sparing politically connected individuals.

The party also called for the recovery of any outstanding billboard fees if investigations establish that owners had failed to pay the legally stipulated charges, regardless of their political affiliations.

Describing traders as essential contributors to the local economy, the ADC urged the state government to respect their livelihoods and provide a fair opportunity for small businesses to operate.

The party insisted that public revenue must be properly accounted for and that urban planning laws should apply equally to all residents, irrespective of their social status or political connections.

The statement did not include a response from KUDA to the allegations or indicate whether the authority had issued further clarification on the reported eviction notice.
