BREAKING: Kebbi PDP Denies Endorsing Governor Idris Ahead of 2027 Elections
By Yusuf Gwandu
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has denied reports that it is supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or its governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The denial followed the endorsement of Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, by some associates of embattled PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, who said on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi that the PDP loyal to Turaki had endorsed Governor Idris as its sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
However, in a special announcement dated August 8, 2026, the Kebbi State PDP Chairman, Usman Bello Suru, described the report as false and baseless, insisting that the party remains united and independent.
Suru said the PDP in the state was in full harmony with all its candidates contesting the forthcoming elections and urged party members and supporters to disregard what he described as rumours being circulated to cause confusion within the party.
«“The PDP in Kebbi State is one and united. It is in full harmony with all its candidates that will contest in the upcoming election,” the chairman said.»
He urged PDP members to focus on uniting the people and strengthening the party, stressing that those spreading the alleged rumours had no control over the affairs of the PDP in Kebbi State.
According to him, the party has candidates for the State House of Assembly in all 21 local government areas, the House of Representatives in all eight federal constituencies, the Senate across the three senatorial districts, as well as a governorship candidate.
The chairman maintained that the party’s candidates across the various elective positions demonstrate that the PDP remains a fully established and independent political party in Kebbi State.
