BREAKING: Fubara Withdraws from APC Governorship Primary

Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress gubernatorial primaries ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the decision was taken in the interest of peace, stability, and unity in the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Fubara said the decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends, and political associates.

The governor stressed that leadership requires sacrifice and noted that Rivers State’s collective interest must come before personal ambition.

“I stepped aside not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” he stated.

Fubara also acknowledged the support of his loyalists and party members, admitting that many had invested heavily in the project and might feel disappointed by the development.

He thanked the All Progressives Congress for the opportunity given to him throughout the process and expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and support.

The governor, however, assured supporters that he remains committed to serving the people of Rivers State until the completion of his tenure and urged party faithful to remain united behind the APC.
