Troops Crush Lakurawa Hideouts, Neutralise Terrorists in Sokoto Forest

Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have destroyed camps belonging to Lakurawa terrorists in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing several fighters and recovering weapons and five motorcycles.

The operation was carried out on October 15, 2026, by troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force, North West, following an advance through suspected terrorist hideouts around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops encountered the terrorists during the operation, triggering a firefight.

The statement said the soldiers overwhelmed the armed group with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon their positions and retreat further into the forest.

The troops pursued the fleeing fighters, neutralising several of them before conducting further clearance operations that led to the destruction of the camps and associated support facilities.

The military also confirmed the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles during the operation.

According to the Theatre Command, troops have maintained a strong presence in the area and continued clearance operations to restrict the movement of terrorists and enhance security in neighbouring communities.

It said the operation reflected the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantling terrorist hideouts, denying armed groups safe havens and restoring peace and security across its operational area.

The command commended the troops for their courage, resilience and continued efforts in the fight against terrorism.

It also urged residents to support the ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
