Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has announced plans to establish a military base in communities affected by recent bandit attacks in Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Idris made the announcement on Saturday during a condolence visit to the District Head of Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman Adamu, following the killing of the Village Head of Lafagu and other victims of the attacks.

The governor described the attacks as barbaric and disturbing, assuring residents that his administration was working with security agencies to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.

He said the government would intensify efforts to protect lives and property and create the conditions necessary for internally displaced persons (IDPs) to safely return to their communities.

“I am not going to relent in ensuring that my people are protected. My government is working hard with the security agencies to ensure that the internally displaced persons return safely to their villages,” Idris said.

The governor also visited some IDP camps in the affected areas, where he sympathised with displaced residents and assured them of continued government support, protection and efforts to facilitate their eventual return home.

He said his administration had concluded arrangements aimed at finding a lasting solution to insecurity in the affected communities.

“I am not going to tolerate these barbaric acts. In shaa Allah, the government is doing everything possible to protect the lives of our people. I will continue to support you and ensure that everyone returns safely to their villages,” he added.

Governor Idris urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, while warning against taking the law into their own hands.

He also appealed to residents to provide security agencies with credible information on suspicious persons and activities in their communities.

Responding, the District Head of Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman Adamu, thanked the governor for visiting the affected community and for what he described as his proactive response to the security situation.

He condemned the attacks as un-Islamic and inhuman and prayed for the governor and his entourage.
