2027: Sokoto Govt Challenges Opposition to Present Records Ahead of Election
By Nafiu Muhammad Lema
The Sokoto State Government has challenged opposition politicians preparing for the 2027 elections to present their records of service and measurable achievements to the people rather than relying on propaganda and political rhetoric.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Strategic Communications, Nuraddeen Muhammad Mahe, made the call during a press conference titled “2027: Let the Records Speak.”
Mahe said the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu had recorded achievements in human capital development, employment, security, education, healthcare and other sectors, urging the electorate to assess political aspirants based on verifiable records.
According to him, 3,000 additional personnel have been recruited into the Sokoto State Civil Service, while 2,440 Community Health Workers have been approved for recruitment and deployment across the state’s 244 wards.
He also cited the graduation and deployment of 1,550 Sokoto Marshals, who, according to him, are engaged in areas including security and intelligence, traffic management, environmental enforcement and protection of public infrastructure.
The governor’s aide further stated that about 2,000 teachers had been employed under the administration’s education interventions, alongside investments in teacher training and educational infrastructure.
He added that the state government had established and supported the Sokoto Community Guard Corps, including the provision of operational vehicles and 710 motorcycles to strengthen grassroots security operations.
“These are not figures we are asking anybody to imagine. They are figures that can be checked,” Mahe said.
He urged all aspirants seeking elective positions in 2027 to explain their previous records and demonstrate what they had achieved with responsibilities entrusted to them.
“Before asking the people of Sokoto for their votes, every aspirant should be prepared to answer: How many jobs have you created? How many people have you empowered? How many institutions have you built? What have you done with the responsibility entrusted to you in the past?” he asked.
Mahe also highlighted Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s previous public service experience, noting that he had served as a commissioner, deputy governor and first Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund before becoming governor.
He said the experience had been reflected in the administration’s focus on security, education, healthcare, water supply, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, employment and infrastructure.
The governor’s aide specifically challenged opposition politicians, including those preparing under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to present their own records to the electorate.
“To our friends in the opposition, including those preparing under the ADC, we say: Come with your record. Not rumours. Not political mathematics. Not social-media slogans. Your record,” he said.
Mahe said the 2027 election should be centred on comparing the records, programmes and previous performances of those seeking the mandate of the people.
“Governor Ahmad Aliyu will present his record. The opposition will present theirs. Let the people put the records side by side,” he said.
He added that the central question ahead of the election should not merely be who wants to govern Sokoto, but who has demonstrated the capacity to deliver.
“The more important question is: ‘Who has shown us what they can do?’” Mahe said.
