2027: South-East APC backs governors, rejects Wike’s ‘rainbow coalition’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in the South-East has endorsed the position of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), calling for the party to give full backing to all its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The position was contained in a joint statement signed by the APC National Vice Chairman, South-East, Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu, alongside the party chairmen in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.
The South-East APC leaders said the PGF’s position was crucial to achieving a broad electoral victory for the party, stressing that all APC candidates, from President Bola Tinubu to candidates contesting State House of Assembly seats, should receive the support of the party.
They also condemned recent remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, against members of the PGF, describing the comments as “most unfortunate, reprehensible and completely unacceptable.”
According to the party leaders, the governors criticised by Wike had implemented major development projects in their respective states and secured more than 25 per cent of the presidential vote in their states during the 2023 election.
“Progressive Governors are not abstract politicians; they are performing leaders whose records speak for themselves,” the statement said.
The APC leaders further accused Wike of attempting to interfere in the political fortunes of serving APC governors ahead of the 2027 elections, arguing that no minister has the authority to dictate the political fate of elected governors.
“It is more troubling that Wike’s growing tendency to insult, diminish and plot to remove sitting Progressive Governors in 2027 is increasing each day,” they said.
They consequently called on the FCT minister to withdraw what they described as his attacks and embrace “party discipline, mutual respect and collective responsibility.”
The South-East APC leadership also rejected what it described as the “rainbow (chameleon) coalition” emerging in the region, vowing to resist any move capable of weakening the party’s structures.
“We in the South East stand solidly with all Progressive Governors and candidates of our party at all levels in the forthcoming 2027 elections,” the leaders declared.
They maintained that the APC was “bigger than any individual” and urged party members in the region to remain united behind its candidates across all levels of government in the 2027 elections.
