Sultan Urges District Heads to Shun Partisan Politics, Promote Peace

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has urged traditional rulers to remain politically neutral and treat all political actors equally in the interest of peace and stability.

The Sultan made the call while addressing district heads in Sokoto, stressing that traditional institutions play a vital role in promoting peace, security and social development at the grassroots.

He also urged the district heads to remain security-conscious within their respective domains and promptly report developments capable of threatening peace and stability to the relevant authorities.

During the engagement, the Commander of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board, Usman Jatau, briefed the district heads on the board’s efforts to address social challenges, particularly extravagance associated with wedding ceremonies and other forms of immorality.

Jatau called for greater support from traditional rulers in promoting decency and addressing social ills in society.

Also at the forum, the Director of the National Population Commission Sokoto State Office, Sani Ladan Dogondaji, alongside representatives of UNICEF sensitised the district heads on the importance of birth and death registration.

They explained that accurate vital registration is essential for effective planning, access to social services legal identity and evidence based development.
