Insecurity Will Soon Become History in Nigeria — Matawalle

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has expressed optimism that the security challenges facing Nigeria will soon be brought under control, assuring Nigerians that the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to restore lasting peace across the country.

Matawalle gave the assurance on Monday during a condolence and assessment visit to the Kano State Government House following the August 29 bandit attack on Chiroma village in Garun Mallam Local Government Area.

The minister said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was committed to defeating insecurity through proactive military operations, strategic planning and stronger cooperation between the Federal Government and state governments.

According to him, President Tinubu has constituted a committee to develop a five-year defence and security strategy that will provide a long-term framework for addressing emerging security threats.

“The president has constituted a committee to develop a five-year defence and security plan. This will guide our long-term approach to tackling security threats across the country,” Matawalle said.

He disclosed that following the attack, the Commander of 3 Brigade, Kano, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, led a joint operation involving personnel from the Joint Task Force camps at Hawan-Kwano and Kwanar Dangora.

The operation, he said, resulted in the rescue of several kidnapped victims around the Yan-Kifi Bridge and Marabar Kwari areas of Garun Mallam LGA.

Matawalle commended the troops for their efforts and assured that the Federal Government would continue to improve the operational capacity of the armed forces and other security agencies.

He stressed that defeating insecurity requires cooperation among the federal, state and local governments, as well as active participation by citizens through the provision of timely and credible information to security agencies.

“We will continue doing everything possible to support our security services to ensure our country is safe. I assure you that soon, insecurity will be a thing of the past, and we will all live in peace and prosperity,” he said.

The minister also pledged additional Federal Government support for Kano State, including the deployment of more fighting vehicles, weapons and other operational equipment to strengthen security operations.

He later held a closed-door meeting with commanders of the 3 Brigade and other security formations in Kano, urging them to sustain ongoing operations and intensify efforts to protect communities.

Matawalle reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to providing security agencies with the resources required to protect lives, property and Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Governor Abba Yusuf thanked the minister for visiting the state and assured him of Kano’s continued cooperation with the Federal Government on security matters.

“We are confident in your leadership. At the state level, we will continue to do what needs to be done to ensure security and stability in Kano,” Yusuf said.

The governor added that the state would support the President’s commitment to tackling insecurity and work to ensure that the security challenges confronting the country do not persist in Kano.
