Woman Arrested for Allegedly Smuggling Drugs into Ogun Prison

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has arrested a woman for allegedly attempting to smuggle a substance suspected to be a psychoactive drug into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The woman was reportedly arrested at about 1:33 p.m. on Friday during a routine screening exercise at the correctional facility.
According to the NCoS Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Odukoya Olayinka, the suspect was visiting an inmate on death row when correctional officers discovered the substance, suspected to be “colos,” concealed inside a sachet of Milo beverage.
Odukoya said the arrest demonstrated the vigilance of correctional personnel and the command’s determination to prevent prohibited items and illicit substances from entering custodial facilities.
Following her arrest, the suspect was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Controller of Corrections in Ogun State, Kamoru Adesina, commended the officers who made the discovery for their alertness and professionalism.
Adesina stressed that correctional facilities were established to reform and rehabilitate inmates, warning that they must not be turned into channels for the circulation of illicit substances.
The command also cautioned members of the public against attempts to compromise the security of correctional centres by introducing prohibited items, stressing that anyone caught engaging in such activities would face the full weight of the law.
