FRSC Zonal Commander Akande Retires After Short Stint in Sokoto

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zonal Commanding Officer, Zone RS10, Sokoto, ACM Shoba Akande, has retired from service after a brief but remarkable stint in the zone.

Akande, who assumed duty as the Zonal Commanding Officer in April 2026, retired on Monday, August 24, his birthday.

At a farewell ceremony held at the RS10 headquarters in Sokoto, CC Sani Umar described Akande as a disciplined, responsible and committed officer whose leadership made a significant impact despite his short stay.

Umar said Akande’s time in the zone demonstrated that effective leadership was not about how long an officer occupied a position, but about the positive difference made during the period.

According to him, the retired commander brought professionalism, experience, guidance and compassion to his responsibilities, earning the respect of officers and personnel under his command.

“Today, we celebrate the man behind the rank. We celebrate a superior whose presence commanded respect, a leader whose decisions carried responsibility, and a Zonal Commanding Officer whose short stay has nevertheless become part of the history and memories of Zone RS10” Umar said.

He described Akande’s departure as a bittersweet moment, noting that personnel had barely settled into working with him before his retirement.

“In April, we welcomed you into Zone RS10. Today, in August, we are already gathered to bid you farewell. The calendar says only a few months have passed, but the heart says it feels longer” he said.

Umar urged the retired officer to embrace retirement as a new phase of life, marked by rest, family, reflection and personal fulfilment.

“Retirement is not defeat. It is a well-deserved transition from a life of official responsibility to a season of rest, reflection, family, fulfilment and renewed purpose” he stated.

He prayed for God to grant Akande good health, protection, long life, peace and fulfilment in his post-service life.

Umar also noted that while Akande had retired from active service, the respect he earned and the legacy he left behind would remain with the zone.

“The uniform may be removed. The office may be handed over. The official responsibilities may cease. But the dignity of having served, the memories created and the respect earned cannot be retired” he said.

He congratulated Akande on his retirement and birthday, thanking him for his service to the FRSC and Nigeria.

“Today, we do not simply bid farewell to a Zonal Commanding Officer. We celebrate a life of service. We honour a journey of sacrifice. We appreciate a season of exemplary leadership. Thank you for serving our nation. Thank you for leading Zone RS10. Thank you for the indelible memories. Happy Birthday and Happy Retirement” Umar concluded.
