Sultan Congratulates Oba Ogunsanwo on LASU Chancellorship, Doctorate

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has congratulated the Alara of Ilara Kingdom in Lagos State, His Royal Majesty Oba Folarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Telade IV, on his appointment as Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, and the conferment of a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree on him by the institution.

Oba Ogunsanwo performed his first official duty as Chancellor on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, during LASU’s combined 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 convocation ceremonies.

In a congratulatory statement issued on Thursday by Prince Bashir Adefaka on behalf of the Sultan’s Media Team, the Sultan commended Lagos State Governor and Visitor to LASU, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for appointing Oba Ogunsanwo as Chancellor in February 2026.

The Sultan described the monarch as eminently qualified for the position, expressing confidence that he would bring his experience, wisdom and leadership qualities to bear on the growth and development of the university.

He also congratulated the Alara on earning the Doctor of Business Administration degree, describing the academic achievement as a further demonstration of his commitment to learning, leadership and service.

“We are very proud of the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Lagos State, Oba Folarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Telade IV, and we wish him the very best as he begins his tenure as Chancellor of Lagos State University,” the Sultan said.

He further expressed confidence that the monarch would contribute positively to the advancement of LASU, while appreciating Governor Sanwo-Olu for recognising his capacity and appointing him to the position.

The Sultan prayed for wisdom, good health and continued success for Oba Ogunsanwo, wishing him a fruitful tenure as Chancellor and greater accomplishments in his service to humanity.
