Sokoto Govt Approves ₦1.76bn for 1,000 Motorcycles to Strengthen Security Operations
The Sokoto State Government has approved the sum of ₦1.759 billion for the procurement of 1,000 Bajaj motorcycles to strengthen security operations and support the fight against banditry across the state.
The approval was part of the resolutions reached at the 6th regular meeting of the Sokoto State Executive Council for 2026, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammad Gobir, on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, the motorcycles are expected to complement the state government’s recent procurement of 62 armoured vehicles valued at ₦27 billion, which were distributed to security agencies to enhance operations in areas affected by banditry.
The Council also approved ₦723.17 million for the renovation of Government Technical College, Runjin Sambo.
Other approvals include ₦498.99 million for the rehabilitation of A.A. Raji Special School; ₦489.32 million for the renovation of Phase I of the College of Nursing Sciences; and ₦229.36 million for the renovation of male and female hostels at the College of Basic and Remedial Studies.
The Council further approved ₦174.64 million for the renovation of staff quarters and upgrading of the perimeter fence at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Wurno.
Also approved were ₦133.67 million for the construction of a perimeter fence at Wamakko Primary Health Centre; ₦93.88 million for vocational learning equipment for 46 women’s vocational centres across the state’s 23 local government areas; and ₦90.21 million for the procurement of PVC pipes and plumbing fittings for the maintenance of 142 semi-urban water supply schemes across the state.
The meeting, which lasted about two hours, was the sixth regular sitting of the State Executive Council in 2026.
