Sultan’s Media Team Thanks Nigerians for Support, Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and National Unity

The Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto has expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their continued support for the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, reaffirming his unwavering commitment to promoting peace, national unity and religious harmony across the country.
The position was contained in a communiqué issued after a pro-Nigeria assessment meeting held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, involving members of the Sultan’s Media Team and media leaders drawn from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The meeting reviewed recent developments concerning the Sultan’s leadership of the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and ongoing national discussions on insecurity, religious coexistence and national unity.
According to the communiqué, the Sultan, who also serves as Co-President of Religions for Peace, headquartered in New York, remains focused on advancing peace, dialogue and national cohesion despite what the team described as attempts by some individuals and groups to distract him from his responsibilities.
The team noted that Nigerians were increasingly gaining a better understanding of the Sultan’s position on national issues and rejecting narratives aimed at portraying him and the Nigerian Muslim Ummah negatively.
It argued that criticisms directed at the Sultan over security challenges were misplaced, stressing that constitutional responsibility for military, security and intelligence matters rests with government institutions.
“Those who, out of religious hatred and ethnic sentiments, have sought to blame the Sultan for problems that should honestly be directed at political leaders and institutions responsible for the military, security and intelligence budgets have laboured in vain,” the communiqué stated.
The Media Team added that it was encouraged by the growing support the Sultan continues to receive from Nigerians across religious and ethnic divides, saying the defence of religious freedom, mutual respect and responsible leadership should transcend religious affiliations.
It also welcomed what it described as a more informed national conversation on the causes of insecurity, terrorism and banditry, expressing confidence that truth would ultimately prevail.
The communiqué urged Nigerians to seek verified facts, promote responsible journalism and avoid narratives capable of deepening religious or ethnic divisions.
Reaffirming confidence in the Sultan’s leadership, the team said he would continue to serve as a respected national and international voice for peace, dialogue, religious understanding and peaceful coexistence.
The Media Team further called on Nigerians to reject divisive narratives, resist religious and ethnic provocation, and support initiatives aimed at strengthening peace, unity and national development.
