Supreme Court Upholds Final Forfeiture of Emefiele’s Luxury Properties
The Supreme Court has upheld the final forfeiture of seven luxury properties linked to former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, reversing an earlier judgment of the Court of Appeal that ordered a fresh hearing of the case.
In a unanimous decision delivered by a five-member panel led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, the apex court allowed the appeal and set aside the ruling of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, which had overturned the forfeiture order issued by the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The judgment restores the Federal High Court’s order directing the final forfeiture of the high-value assets to the Federal Government, effectively ending Emefiele’s legal challenge against the confiscation of the properties.
The ruling marks the conclusion of the appeal process over the ownership of the properties, reaffirming the validity of the Federal High Court’s decision.
