Davido, Rarara Clash Over Remarks on Nigeria, Exchange Jabs on Social Media

A war of words has erupted between popular Nigerian praise singer, Dauda Kahutu Rarara and award winning Afrobeats star Davido, sparking widespread reactions across social media platforms.
The controversy began after Rarara released a video in Hausa criticizing Davido over what he described as an unpatriotic posture toward Nigeria. In the video, Rarara alleged that Davido, while performing at a concert in the United States, wore a names tag bearing the identity of the abducted schoolchildren in a campaign highlighting the plight of kidnapped students in Oyo State.
According to Rarara, the act amounted to exposing Nigeria’s challenges to the international community and was intended to tarnish the country’s image as well as that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He further described the move as unpatriotic and likened it to an attempt to demarket Nigeria abroad.
Davido, however, responded on his X account by sharing a clip of Rarara’s video and posting the word “Debidoo” apparently mocking the political singer’s pronunciation of his name.
Not long after, Rarara fired back in Hausa with the phrase “Ka shiga taitayinka,” loosely translated as “Mind your business”or “Stay in your lane”
The exchange escalated when Davido replied surprisingly in Hausa “Da ace kana da ilimi da na tsaya nayi magana da kai. Amma komai baka sani ba, sakarai kawai” which translates to “If you were educated I would have taken time to engage you. But you know nothing; you’re simply foolish”.
The online spat has since generated intense debate among fans, political observers, and social media users, with supporters of both personalities weighing in on the controversy and the broader issues of patriotism, freedom of expression, and the role of celebrities in drawing attention to national challenges.
As reactions continue to pour in neither Davido nor Rarara has shown any sign of backing down from the increasingly public feud.
