Dan’iya Felicitates Muslims On Islamic New Year, Calls For Peace And Unity
The Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Hon. Munir Muhammad Dan’iya (Walin Sokoto), has congratulated Muslims in Sokoto State, across Nigeria, and around the world on the commencement of the Islamic New Year, 1448AH.
Dan’iya’s message followed the declaration by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, that Tuesday, June 16, 2026, marks the first day of Muharram 1448AH and the beginning of a new Islamic calendar year.
In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, the ADC governorship candidate described the Islamic New Year as a period for reflection, gratitude, spiritual renewal, and recommitment to the values of peace, justice, compassion, and service to humanity.
He urged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for lasting peace, security, unity, and prosperity in Sokoto State and Nigeria, while embracing tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.
According to Dan’iya, the beginning of a new Islamic year offers an opportunity for individuals and communities to reflect on their responsibilities toward building a more peaceful, united, and prosperous society.
“The commencement of a new Islamic year provides an opportunity for reflection on our individual and collective responsibilities towards building a more peaceful, united, and prosperous society. It is a time to strengthen our faith, renew our hope, and recommit ourselves to the values that promote harmony and progress,” he stated.
The former deputy governor noted that the challenges facing the country require sustained prayers, patience, and collective efforts from both citizens and leaders to promote development, understanding, and social cohesion.
He also called on religious leaders, community stakeholders, and the wider Muslim Ummah to continue promoting moral values, peace, and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
Dan’iya expressed optimism that with unity, faith, and responsible leadership, Sokoto State and Nigeria would continue to make meaningful progress toward achieving lasting peace and sustainable development.
He prayed for Allah’s blessings, good health, security, and success for all Muslims and wished the entire Ummah a peaceful, prosperous, and spiritually rewarding Islamic New Year.
